Born of gaming culture and cyberpunk, the roots of Punk Purple are from Color Marketing Group’s 2020 Asia Pacific meetings. As predicted, the hue is emerging in 2022 as a strong colour statement. It is a way to counter well-behaved colours and kick old design ideas to the curb, Punk Purple is an expression of victory.
High chroma makes Punk Purple a revolutionary hue for modern generations, and makes it a color declaration that moves beyond gender, social, and economic status. Its strong message pushes the boundaries of design and colour as a new take on purple. It dominates and it wins.
That doesn’t mean that it’s ill-mannered, Punk Purple simply has a commanding presence and plays very well with other hues. It practically illuminates light grey and crisp blue, balancing light and dark with neutral and cool. It can push its cyberpunk origins with bright green and white to form a digital graffiti palette that adds punch to any statement it makes. And it can be part of a monochromatic collection that offers an electric flow of value changes within.
Hi-gloss finishes connect it to fantastical worlds of gaming, VR, and AR. It is filled with light on screen, or reflects it in glossy paints. Sparkling with special effects, it creates a presence that is part digital, part space journey. It is hotly anticipated in commercial and residential exteriors and interiors. Imagine the power of a front door or window framing in this commanding hue, or an accent wall that takes control of a space. Punk Purple can also be heart pounding hue for cabinetry and furniture frames. Take it outdoor and it will both accent and main point in exterior structures and gardens.
Fashion and accessories will also benefit from this statement-making colour with everything from streetwear to footwear, personal accessories to electronics displaying a sense of “take no prisoners” colour punch. And while clothing and the like will make their own statements, Punk Purple will also appear in visual communications to add a twist to messaging and garner complete attention.
“Purple” can sometimes get a bad rep, but no longer. Punk Purple is a power player in the colour game.
